1454 — Battle of Leskovac
The Battle of Leskovac took place on September 24, 1454. During the Ottoman invasion, two Serbian armies were set up, one in Kosovo, and the other in Dubočica, near Leskovac. A large Ottoman force headed from Macedonia was met by Nikola Skobaljić and the Serbs scored a decisive victory over the Ottomans. Nikola Skobalić continued his forays against the Ottomans, operating in Southern Serbia and the Leskovac area, and won several major victories against the armies of the Sultan until Mehmed II himself and to confront the Serbs at the Battle of Trepanje, where Voivode Nikola and his men fought to the last man, inflicting massive casualties on the much larger Ottoman force.

The siege of Hulst was a siege of the city of Hulst that took place between 20 and 24 September 1591 by a Dutch and English army under the leadership of Maurice of Orange during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War. The siege was part of Maurice's famous campaign of 1591.

1645 — Battle of Rowton Heath
The Battle of Rowton Heath, also known as the Battle of Rowton Moor, occurred on 24 September 1645 during the English Civil War. Fought by the Parliamentarians, commanded by Sydnam Poyntz, and the Royalists under the personal command of King Charles I, it was a significant defeat for the Royalists, with heavy losses and Charles prevented from relieving the Siege of Chester. Prior to the battle, Charles had been attempting to link up with the Marquess of Montrose in Scotland following the Royalist defeat in the Battle of Naseby.

1689 — Battle of Niš (1689)
The Battle of Niš was fought on 24 September 1689, near the city of Niš in southern Serbia, between the forces of the Ottoman Empire, and the forces of the Holy Roman Empire as part of the Great Turkish War. The Austrian Commander, Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden; defeated the Ottoman forces and captured the city. When Louis William learned that there are no Ottoman defence positions on Vinik he ordered Nestorović to attack it. Nestorović managed to bypass right wing of Ottoman forces and with this maneuver solved the battle in favor of Austrians.

1788 — Theatre War
The Theatre War (Swedish: Teaterkriget), Cowberry War or Cranberry War (Norwegian: Tyttebærkrigen, Danish: Tyttebærkrigen), was a brief war between Denmark–Norway and Sweden, starting on 24 September 1788, formally lasting until 9 July 1789. Although the decision to launch the attack was taken in Denmark, the majority of the attacking soldiers were Norwegians from the Danish-Norwegian army. The attack was directed towards the region known as Bohuslän in Sweden, and was supposed to act as a diversion to relieve Russia, who was an ally of Denmark–Norway and had recently been attacked by Sweden (Gustav III's Russian War).

1795 — Battle of Handschuhsheim
The Battle of Handschuhsheim or Battle of Heidelberg (24 September 1795) saw an 8,000-man force from Habsburg Austria under Peter Vitus von Quosdanovich face 12,000 men from the Republican French army led by Georges Joseph Dufour. Thanks to a devastating cavalry charge, the Austrians routed the French with disproportionate losses. The fight occurred during the War of the First Coalition, part of the French Revolutionary Wars. Handschuhsheim is now a district of Heidelberg, but it was a village north of the city in 1795. In early 1795 many of France's enemies made peace, leaving only Austria and Great Britain in opposition.

1877 — Battle of Shiroyama
The Battle of Shiroyama (城山の戦い, Shiroyama no tatakai) took place on 24 September 1877, in Kagoshima, Japan. It was the final battle of the Satsuma Rebellion, where the heavily outnumbered samurai under Saigō Takamori made their last stand against Imperial Japanese Army troops under the command of General Yamagata Aritomo and Admiral Kawamura Sumiyoshi. The battle culminated in the annihilation of Saigō and his army, marking the end of the Satsuma Rebellion. The Imperial Army's victory consolidated their power, and the Satsuma Rebellion was the last instance of internal mutiny seen in the Empire of Japan.

1959 — TAI Flight 307
TAI Flight 307 was a scheduled flight operated by Transports Aériens Intercontinentaux (TAI) between France and the Ivory Coast via Mali operated by a Douglas DC-7C. On 24 September 1959, the aircraft crashed during its departure from Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport, France when it flew into trees. All of the flight crew and 45 of the 56 passengers on board were killed; the other 11 passengers were seriously injured.

The 1963 Tampa mayoral election was held on September 24, 1963, following a primary election on September 10, 1963. Incumbent Mayor Julian Lane ran for re-election to a second term. He was challenged by former Mayor Nick Nuccio, whom Lane defeated in 1959, Sheriff Ed Blackburn, and wholesale furniture executive Guy Burnett. In the primary, Nuccio narrowly came in first, winning 37 percent to Lane's 35 percent, and both advanced to the general election.

Unforgiven (2000) was the third Unforgiven professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The event was presented by RC Cola Edge and took place on September 24, 2000, at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The main event was a Fatal Four-Way match for the WWF Championship. The Rock defended the title against Chris Benoit, The Undertaker and Kane. Benoit originally won the match by pinning Undertaker but since Undertaker's foot was on the rope and the referee did not notice it, the match was restarted and Rock pinned Benoit after a Rock Bottom to retain the title.

South African Airlink Flight 8911 was a positioning flight from Durban International Airport to Pietermaritzburg Airport, South Africa, operated by a British Aerospace Jetstream 41, crashed into the grounds of Merebank Secondary School, Durban shortly after take-off on 24 September 2009, injuring the three occupants of the aircraft and one on the ground. The captain of the flight subsequently died of his injuries on 7 October 2009.

2014 — India’s Mars Orbiter Mission reaches Mars
India's Mars Orbiter Mission successfully entered orbit around Mars after an interplanetary journey lasting more than ten months. The spacecraft, also known as Mangalyaan, was operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation. It was designed primarily to demonstrate technologies required for interplanetary flight while carrying instruments to study Mars and its environment. The successful orbital insertion made India the first Asian country to reach Mars orbit and the first country to do so on its initial attempt. The mission became a significant milestone for India's space program, demonstrating navigation, communication, and spacecraft-operation capabilities at a distance far beyond Earth orbit.

A federal election was held in Germany on 24 September 2017 to elect the members of the 19th Bundestag. At stake were at least 598 seats in the Bundestag, as well as 111 overhang and leveling seats determined thereafter. The Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CDU/CSU), led by incumbent chancellor Angela Merkel, won the highest percentage of the vote with 33%, though it suffered a large swing against it of more than 8%.

2022 — 2022 Czech Senate election
Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 23 and 24 September 2022 alongside municipal elections. The election were won by the Spolu alliance consisting of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 which won 20 seats (including Tábor 2020 candidate Marek Slabý and ProMOST candidate Jan Paparega). The ODS was the most successful party, winning eight seats.

The Banjska attack (Albanian: Sulmi në Banjskë; Serbian: Напад у Бањској, romanized: Napad u Banjskoj) was an armed assault carried out by Serb militants against the Kosovo Police on 24 September 2023, in the village of Banjska in Northern Kosovo. Between 23 and 24 September 2023, Serb militants initiated an attack on Kosovo police as they responded to a situation where trucks lacking license plates were blocking a bridge in Banjska.
