1110 — Battle of Candespina
The Battle of Candespina was fought on 26 October 1110 or 1111 between the forces of Alfonso I of Aragon and those of his estranged wife, Urraca of León and Castile, in the Campo de la Espina near Sepúlveda. Alfonso was victorious, as he would be again in a few weeks at the Battle of Viadangos. The battle was the result of a power struggle between Alfonso and Urraca.

1584 — Battle of Slunj
The Battle of Slunj (Croatian: Bitka kod Slunja) was fought on 26 October 1584 between the Ottoman forces of the Bosnian Beglerbeg, Ferhad Pasha Sokolović, and Germanic and Croatian forces led by Jobst Joseph von Thurn and Thomas Erdődy, the Ban of Croatia. The battle was a part of the Croatian–Ottoman wars and Ottoman–Habsburg wars between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg Monarchy. Ottoman troops were estimated at between 8-10,000 men, and the army of Thurn and Erdödy consisted of 1,300 infantry and 700 cavalry. The battle resulted in a crushing defeat for the Ottoman forces.

1587 — Battle of Vimory
The Battle of Vimory occurred on 26 October 1587 between the French royal (Catholic) forces of King Henry III of France commanded by Henry of Guise and German and Swiss mercenaires commanded by Fabien I, Burgrave of Dohna and William-Robert de la Marck, Duke of Bouillon who were hired to assist Henry of Navarre's Huguenot forces during the eighth and final war (1585-1598) of the French Wars of Religion. The Protestant mercenaries were funded by Elizabeth I of England and the King of Denmark. After having pillaged the Lorraine region, they arrived in Burgundy and entered into the Beauce region.

The battle was fought between the royalist forces loyal to the Spanish crown, and the Mexican rebels fighting for independence from the Spanish Empire. The battle resulted in a victory for the Mexican rebels.

1813 — Battle of the Chateauguay
The Battle of the Chateauguay was an engagement of the War of 1812. On 26 October 1813, a British force consisting of 1,630 regulars, volunteers and militia from Lower Canada and Mohawk warriors, commanded by Charles de Salaberry, repelled an American force of about 4,000, including 2,600 regulars, attempting to invade Lower Canada and ultimately attack Montreal. The Battle of the Chateauguay was one of the two battles (the other being the Battle of Crysler's Farm) which caused the Americans to abandon the Saint Lawrence Campaign, their major strategic effort in the autumn of 1813.

1960 — 1960 Salvadoran coup d'état
The 1960 Salvadoran coup d'état also known as El Madrugón de los Compadres, was the successful overthrow in El Salvador of the José Maria Lemus administration by leftist elements of the military and civilians. The coup resulted in establishing a six-person military junta composed of three military officials and three civilians led by Colonel César Yanes Urías. After three months, the military junta was deposed in a countercoup by the military establishment, determined to "rid the country of communism." The successful coup attempt followed a period of civil unrest against the Lemus government, with student demonstrations being held demanding the resignation of President Lemus and the establishment of a truly democratic system in El Salvador. The demonstrations were inspired by Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution. A declining economy caused by lower coffee and cotton export prices and repressive electoral legislation were primary contributors. In response, President Lemus backtracked on his initial reformist policies of general amnesty for political dissidents and abolishment of repressive policies by the previous regimes. He further reversed his policies by reinstating authoritarian laws such as banning of free expression and assembly, and arbitrary detaining of political opponents. Recognizing the untenable situation and President Lemus' loss of control, the military staged a bloodless coup, deposing him on 26 October 1960.

2003 — W.A.K.O. World Championships 2003
W.A.K.O. World Championships 2003 in Paris were the joint fourteenth world championships held by the W.A.K.O. and the first ever to be held in France. The other (joint) world championships were to be held in November of the same year in Yalta, Ukraine. The event was open to amateur men and women with approximately 780 athletes from 63 countries across the world taking part. There were four styles on offer at Paris; Full-Contact, Light-Contact, Semi-Contact and Aero-Kickboxing. The other W.A.K.O. styles (Low-Kick, Thai-Boxing and Musical Forms) would be held at the second event later in the year at Yalta. By the end of the championships, Russia was the strongest nation in terms of medals won, with Hungary in second and Italy in third. The event was held between five days at the Palais des Sports Marcel-Cerdan in Paris, France, starting on Tuesday, October 21 and finishing on Sunday, October 26, 2003.

An indirect presidential election was held in the Marshall Islands on 26 October 2009 following the ousting of incumbent President Litokwa Tomeing in the nation's first successful vote of no confidence on 21 October 2009. Tomeing had been temporarily replaced by Ruben Zackhras as acting president. Only two candidates were nominated for President, who is elected by the 33-member Nitijela. The candidates were Speaker Jurelang Zedkaia and former President Kessai Note, who had led the no confidence measure against Tomeing. Tomeing and Kessai had engaged in a power struggle since Kessai had lost his re-election bid in the 2007 election.

Legislative elections were held in Tunisia on 26 October 2014. Campaigning started on 4 October 2014. They were the first free regular legislative elections since independence in 1956, and the first elections held following the adoption of the new constitution in January 2014, which created a 217-seat Assembly of the Representatives of the People. According to preliminary results, Nidaa Tounes gained a plurality of votes, winning 85 seats in the 217-seat parliament, beating the Ennahda Movement (69 seats) and many smaller parties. Presidential elections were held a month later on 23 November.

A snap parliamentary election for the Verkhovna Rada took place in Ukraine on 26 October 2014. The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, announced the date of the election on 25 August 2014. Poroshenko had pressed for early parliamentary elections since his victory in the May 2014 presidential election. Because of the ongoing War in Donbass and the unilateral annexation of Crimea by Russia, the elections were not held in all of the regions of Ukraine. On 2 September 2014 the Central Election Commission of Ukraine announced that voting would not be held for the 12 Verkhovna Rada constituencies in Crimea and Sevastopol.
