1573 — Battle of Mikatagahara
The Battle of Mikatagahara (三方ヶ原の戦い Mikatagahara no tatakai) (January 25, 1573; Tōtōmi Province, Japan) was one of the most famous battles of Takeda Shingen's campaigns, and one of the best demonstrations of his cavalry-based tactics. It was also one of Tokugawa Ieyasu's worst defeats, and complete disaster was only narrowly averted. According to the Japanese calendar, the battle was fought on the 22nd day, 12th month, the year Genki-3.

1644 — Battle of Nantwich
The Battle of Nantwich was fought during the First English Civil War, between the Parliamentarians and Royalists, northwest of the town of Nantwich in Cheshire on 25 January 1644. The Royalists under Lord Byron were besieging Nantwich, and Sir Thomas Fairfax led an army to relieve the town. As Fairfax approached, a sudden thaw caused the River Weaver to rise in spate, dividing Byron's cavalry from his infantry and artillery, who were overrun and destroyed by Fairfax. The Parliamentarian victory halted a run of Royalist successes in the area, and was a major setback to King Charles I's plan of campaign for the year.

1961 — 1961 Salvadoran coup d'état
The 1961 Salvadoran coup d'état was a successful countercoup in El Salvador led by Colonel Aníbal Portillo against the short-lived Junta of Government that had taken power in 1960, replacing the reformist military junta with an ardent anti-communist government named the Civic-Military Directory. By the end of that year, military governance had given way to democratic rule. Motives behind the military overthrow were reactionary in nature, driven by military fears of a Communist takeover within the country, due to the perceived sympathies of the reformist junta towards Communist and Cuban influence. These concerns were further exacerbated by the visit to Cuba by far-left Salvadoran extremists, spurring the disunited Armed Forces to unify in safeguarding the state from Communism. On 25 January 1961, the planned military coup, which had the backing of every top army official, was finally executed, ending in the successful deposing of the six-man civilian-military junta.

The seizure of power took place while Obote was abroad attending the Commonwealth Heads of State conference in Singapore. Amin was afraid that Obote might dismiss him. The 1971 coup is often cited as an example of "class action by the military", wherein the Ugandan armed forces acted against "an increasingly socialist régime whose equalitarian domestic politics posed more and more of a threat to the military's economic privileges".
