1521 — Battle of Falun
The Battle of Falun (Swedish: Slaget om Falun) was the first battle of the Swedish War of Liberation that took place in Falun, Sweden on February 5, 1521. Swedish rebels under Gustav Vasa, who had just days earlier been proclaimed leader of the Dalecarlians against the Danes, raided Falun. The rebels, consisting of a few hundred poorly armed peasants and some noble officers, took the Danish forces in the town completely by surprise. The local fogde Kristoffer Olsson and a few others labelled as "traitors" were captured. Local shops run by German merchants were plundered, and the population taxed.

The Battle of Lekkerbeetje or Lekkerbeetken (5 February 1600) was a cavalry duel fought by pre-arrangement on Vughterheide near 's-Hertogenbosch, North Brabant, between 22 Brabantine cavalrymen loyal to Albert VII, Archduke of Austria, garrisoned in 's-Hertogenbosch, and 22 French cavalrymen serving in the army of the Dutch Republic.

1794 — Battle of Sans Culottes Camp
The Battle of Sans Culottes Camp (5 February 1794) saw a Spanish Royal army commanded by José de Urrutia y de las Casas attack part of the Republican French Army of the Western Pyrenees under Jean-Henri-Guy-Nicolas de Frégeville. The Spanish assault seized two key positions behind the Bidasoa River but was unable to overrun the main position, called Sans Culottes Camp after an eight-hour contest. The War of the Pyrenees action was fought at a location described as being "in front" (that is, west of) of Saint-Jean-de-Luz near the modern border between Spain and France.

1810 — Siege of Cádiz
The Siege of Cádiz was a siege of the large Spanish naval base of Cádiz by a French army from 5 February 1810 to 24 August 1812 during the Peninsular War. Following the occupation of Seville, Cádiz became the Spanish seat of power, and was targeted by 70,000 French troops under the command of the Marshals Claude Victor and Nicolas Jean-de-Dieu Soult for one of the most important sieges of the war. Defending the city were 2,000 Spanish troops who, as the siege progressed, received aid from 10,000 Spanish reinforcements as well as British and Portuguese troops.

The Callao uprising (Spanish: Sublevación del Callao), also known as the Callao mutiny (Spanish: Motín del Callao), took place on February 5, 1824, in the Real Felipe Fortress in Callao, during the campaigns of Simón Bolívar in the Peruvian War of Independence, when Chilean, Colombian, Peruvian and Argentine units of the Army of the Andes rose up and crossed to the Spanish side, ending the unit's existence.

1835 — Second Battle of Arquijas
The Second Battle of Arquijas (February 5, 1835) was a battle of the First Carlist War. It followed the First Battle of Arquijas. The battle was a second attack on the positions of Carlist commander Tomás de Zumalacárregui at the pass at Arquijas, Navarre. Liberal commander Francisco Espoz y Mina sent 5,000 infantry and cavalrymen into the field. 9,000 Liberal troops were at Estella under Manuel Lorenzo, Marcelino de Oraá Lecumberri, and three other generals. Espoz y Mina gave orders for the passage of the Ega River at Arquijas. Meanwhile Zumalacárregui had 8,500 men. His generals were Ituralde, Guibelalde, Villareal, and Miguel Gómez Damas.

General elections were held in Costa Rica on February 5, 1978. Rodrigo Carazo Odio of the Unity Coalition won the presidential election, whilst his party also won the parliamentary election. Voter turnout was 81%. Carazo, former Congressman and former member of National Liberation Party (probably Costa Rica’s main political force) left the party several years before and created his own: Democratic Renovation, but a deeply split opposition on the 1974 election caused PLN’s easy victory. With that in mind, main leaders of the non-Marxist opposition started talks in order to present a unified candidature.

General elections were held in Costa Rica on February 5, 2006. In the presidential election, Óscar Arias of the National Liberation Party (Partido Liberación Nacional), a former president and Nobel Peace Laureate, was victorious over Ottón Solís of the Citizens' Action Party (Partido Acción Ciudadana) and twelve other minor-party candidates. Although Arias was expected to win by a wide margin, the actual polling reports were unexpectedly close. However, early results showed the contest to be closer than it actually was. The preliminary official report, after 88.45% of the vote counted, showed the result for President of the Republic almost tied between Arias with 40.51% of the vote and Ottón Solís with 40.29%.
