1521 — Battle of Västerås

The Battle of Västerås (Swedish: Slaget om Västerås) was a battle in the Swedish War of Liberation that took place on Badelundaåsen, north of Västerås, Sweden on April 29, 1521. The Swedish troops, led by Gustav Vasa, defeated the Danish force, led by Didrik Slagheck, and conquered Västerås. Gustav Vasa, who after going to Gästrikland and attempting to rally support for his rebellion, returned to Dalarna in early April and was informed of the victory in the Battle of Brunnbäck Ferry. He decided to continue onwards to Västerås. His troops had on April 23 made camp by Romfartuna Church, where the army was mustered.

The Battle of Barbados also known as the Action of Carlisle Bay was a military action that took place off the Caribbean island of Barbados on 29 April 1665 just before the outbreak of the Second Anglo-Dutch War. It was fought between an English force defending against an attacking Dutch force led by Michiel de Ruyter.

1758 — Battle of Cuddalore (1758)

For other battles with this name, see Battle of Cuddalore (disambiguation) The naval Battle of Cuddalore took place on 29 April 1758 during the Seven Years' War near Cuddalore off the Carnatic coast of India and was an indecisive battle between a British squadron under Vice-Admiral George Pocock and French squadron under Comte d'Aché. British casualties were 29 killed and 89 wounded, while France lost 99 killed and 321 wounded. Although the battle itself was indecisive, the French fleet was able to achieve its primary objective of delivering the reinforcements that the defenders of Pondicherry were awaiting.

1781 — Battle of Fort Royal

The Battle of Fort Royal was a naval battle fought off Fort Royal, Martinique in the West Indies during the Anglo-French War on 29 April 1781, between fleets of the British Royal Navy and the French Navy. After an engagement lasting four hours, the British squadron under Admiral Samuel Hood broke off and retreated. Admiral de Grasse offered a desultory chase before seeing the French convoys safe to port.

The Battle of The Pineberry Battery (or Engagements at Pineberry, Willtown, and White Point) was a series of minor engagements, fought April 29, 1862, in Charleston County, South Carolina, during the American Civil War. The engagements proceeded from an attack by the Union Navy on a battery on John Berkeley Grimball's plantation on Edisto Island. After successfully destroying the battery, the ship was attacked twice by Confederate artillery forces before returning to its station.

1863 — Battle of Grand Gulf

The Battle of Grand Gulf was fought on April 29, 1863, during the American Civil War. In the Vicksburg Campaign of Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Union naval forces under Rear Adm. David D. Porter led seven ironclads in an attack on the Confederate fortifications and batteries at Grand Gulf, downriver from Vicksburg, Mississippi. Although the Confederates withstood the Union bombardment and prevented infantry from landing against their fortification, the defeat was only a minor setback to Grant's plan to cross the Mississippi River and advance against Vicksburg.

1863 — Battle of Pyzdry (1863)

The Battle of Pyzdry, one of many skirmishes of the January Uprising, took place on April 29, 1863, near the town of Pyzdry, which at that time belonged to Russian-controlled Congress Poland. 1200 Polish insurgents under Edmund Taczanowski and Alojzy Oranowski clashed here with 1500 soldiers of the Imperial Russian Army. The battle ended in Polish victory. Pyzdry, a town in historic Greater Poland, was at that time located in western part of Congress Poland, near the border with Kingdom of Prussia’s Province of Posen. The uprising did not reach this part of Prussia, but Poznan, where Poles were in the majority, supported the uprising with volunteers, weapons, money, uniforms and equipment.

The Battle of Gurin took place on 29 April 1915 during the Kamerun Campaign of World War I in Gurin, British Nigeria near the border with German Kamerun. The battle was one of the largest of the German forays into the British colony. It ended in a successful British repulsion of the German force.

1923 — Spanish general election, 1923

General elections to the Cortes Generales were held in Spain on 29 April 1923. At stake were all 409 seats in the Congress of Deputies. The 1923 general election would be the final election governed by the customary turno system. As expected, it legitimated a prearranged shift of power from the Conservatives to the Liberals. The system ended with the September 1923 coup of Miguel Primo de Rivera, and the next elections - held after eight years of dictatorship and the removal of the monarchy - would be competitive.

General elections were held in Fiji between 15 and 29 April 1972, the first since independence from the United Kingdom in 1970. They were characterised by the lack of rancour between racial groups, typical of the 1966 general election and the 1968 by-elections. The result was a landslide for the Alliance Party of the Prime Minister, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, which won 33 of the 52 seats, and surprised many observers by capturing almost 25 percent of the Indo-Fijian vote. The Indo-Fijian-dominated National Federation Party, led by Sidiq Koya, won the remaining 19 seats.

Operation Frequent Wind was the final phase in the evacuation of American civilians and "at-risk" Vietnamese from Saigon, South Vietnam, before the takeover of the city by the North Vietnamese People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) in the Fall of Saigon. It was carried out on 29–30 April 1975, during the last days of the Vietnam War. More than 7,000 people were evacuated by helicopter from various points in Saigon.

General elections were held in South Africa on 29 April 1981. The National Party, under the leadership of P. W. Botha since 1978, lost some support, but achieved another landslide victory, winning 131 of 165 directly elected seats in the House of Assembly. Meanwhile, the Progressive Federal Party – led since 1979 by Frederik van Zyl Slabbert, an Afrikaner – increased its representation to 26 seats, thereby consolidating its position as the official opposition.

1982 — Salvadoran presidential election, 1982

Indirect presidential elections were held in El Salvador on 29 April 1982. The Legislative Assembly voted on three candidates nominated by the armed forces. Álvaro Alfredo Magaña Borja, leader of the Democratic Action, was elected by 36 votes to 17, ahead of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) and Party of National Conciliation candidates. Roberto D'Aubuisson accused Jaime Abdul Gutiérrez Avendaño of imposing on the Assembly "his personal decision to put Álvaro Alfredo Magaña Borja in the presidency" in spite of a "categorical no" from the ARENA deputies. Magaña was sworn into office on 2 May.

1992 — Gambian general election, 1992

General elections were held in the Gambia on 29 April 1992. The election date was announced on 14 February and the National Assembly was dissolved three days later. A total of 130 candidates ran for the 36 elected seats, though the ruling People's Progressive Party was the only one with a candidate in every seat. Although he had announced his retirement in December 1991, President Dawda Jawara changed his mind and ran for the position again. Both elections were won by the PPP, with Jawara remaining president, winning 58.5% of the vote. Voter turnout was around 55.8%.

Backlash (2007) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which took place on April 29, 2007, at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. 2007 — King of Europe Cup

This tournament should not be confused with the "King of Europe Tournament", held in 2006 by the Austrian wrestling promotion Rings of Europe. The King of Europe Cup (KOE cup) was a European professional wrestling tournament in the style of the Battle of Los Angeles, King of Indies, Super 8, and Ted Petty Invitational tournaments of the United States. The tournament was hosted at the Liverpool Olympia in Liverpool, England on 28 and 29 April 2007 and was the brainchild of two UK wrestling veterans Alex Shane and Doug Williams.

2012 — Extreme Rules (2012)

Extreme Rules (2012) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It took place on April 29, 2012 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It was the fourth event under the Extreme Rules chronology. Eight professional wrestling matches were scheduled on the event's card and one pre-show match was streamed on YouTube. It included Brock Lesnar's first WWE match since WrestleMania XX in 2004. The concept of Extreme Rules was that the event comprised various hardcore-based matches. In the main event, John Cena defeated Brock Lesnar in an Extreme Rules match.

2013 — 2013 Prague explosion

On April 29, 2013 at 10:38am CEST (8:38 UTC), an explosion occurred in a building in the centre of Prague, Czech Republic. The incident occurred in a townhouse belonging to the Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic on Divadelní street in Old Town, Prague 1, close to the Academy of Sciences and National Theatre. The blast could be heard across the whole city centre, as far away as Prague Castle, 1.4 km (1 mi) away from the incident. 43 people were injured by the blast, one seriously. No one was killed.

National Airlines Flight 102 (N8102/NCR102) was a cargo flight operated by National Airlines between Camp Bastion (now Camp Shorabak) near the city of Lashkargah in Afghanistan and Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, with a refueling stop at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. On April 29, 2013, the Boeing 747-400 operating the flight crashed within the perimeter of the Bagram Airfield moments after taking off, killing all seven people on board.
