1289 — Battle of Schosshalde

The battle of Schosshalde was fought between the imperial city of Bern and the House of Habsburg on 27 April 1289 just outside Bern (between Bern and Ostermundigen). The background of the conflict is Bern's refusal to pay taxes to Habsburg, and turning to the anti-Habsburg alliance of Burgundy and Savoy for protection. Burgundy declared war on Habsburg in 1287, and Rudolf of Habsburg treated Bern as a Burgundian city, laying siege to it twice without success.The son of Rudolf of Habsubrg, duke Rudolf of Swabia moved towards Bern with 300 cavalry in April 1289 and prepared an ambush outside of the city while harassing the landscape in an attempt to draw out a sortie.

1423 — Battle of Hořice

The Battle of Hořice (German name: Horschitz) was fought on April 27, 1423 between the Orebites faction of the Hussites and Bohemian catholics. The Hussites were led by Jan Žižka (who was completely blind at the time of the battle), while the catholics were led by multiple convertite Čeněk of Wartenberg. The battle took place on the Gothard plateau near Hořice. Thanks to strategic position which allowed perfect use of Hussite war wagons and Žižka's tacticall skills, Hussites eventually won this battle. Hussites took the high ground and built their Wagenburg (wagon fort) there.

1521 — Battle of Mactan

The Battle of Mactan (Cebuano: Gubat sa Mactan; Tagalog: Labanan sa Mactan; Spanish: Batalla de Mactán) was fought in the Philippines on 27 April 1521, prior to Spanish colonization. The warriors of Lapu-Lapu, a native chieftain of Mactan Island, overpowered and defeated a Spanish force fighting for Rajah Humabon of Cebu, under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, who was killed in the battle.

1522 — Battle of Bicocca

The Battle of Bicocca or La Bicocca (Italian: Battaglia della Bicocca) was fought on 27 April 1522, during the Italian War of 1521–26. A combined French and Venetian force under Odet de Foix, Vicomte de Lautrec, was decisively defeated by a Imperial–Spanish and Papal army under the overall command of Prospero Colonna. Lautrec then withdrew from Lombardy, leaving the Duchy of Milan in Imperial hands. Having been driven from Milan by an Imperial advance in late 1521, Lautrec had regrouped, attempting to strike at Colonna's lines of communication.

1650 — Battle of Carbisdale

The Battle of Carbisdale (also known as Invercarron) took place close to the Village of Culrain on 27 April 1650 and was part of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. It was fought by the Royalist leader James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, against the Scottish Government of the time, dominated by Archibald Campbell, 1st Marquess of Argyll and a grouping of radical Covenanters, known as the Kirk Party. The battlefield has been inventoried and protected by Historic Scotland under the Scottish Historical Environment Policy of 2009.

1706 — Siege of Barcelona (1706)

The Siege of Barcelona took place between 3 and 27 April 1706 during the War of the Spanish Succession when a Franco-Spanish army led by Philip V laid siege to Barcelona in an attempt to recapture it following its fall to an English-led Allied army the previous year. The siege was abandoned, following the appearance of a large English fleet under the command of John Leake carrying reinforcements. The Franco-Spanish army was forced to abandon its supplies and artillery in its hasty retreat. Phillip was cut off from returning to Madrid, and so he crossed into France.

1744 — Siege of Villafranca (1744)

The siege of Villafranca took place between 14 and 27 April 1744, during the War of the Austrian Succession. The armies of Spain and France advancing towards the Kingdom of Sardinia and attacked the entrenched positions in the Villafranca pass, defended by Anglo-Sardinian forces. The Franco-Spanish attacks were not very successful, but the defenders, due to the high losses suffered during the attacks, were forced to abandon the port of Villafranca with a large part of their forces.

The action at Osborne's (sometimes spelled Osburn's or Osborns), Virginia was a minor naval–land engagement on April 27, 1781, in the James River during the American Revolutionary War. The battle resulted in the near-complete destruction of the Virginia State Navy as well as a large stockpile of Virginian tobacco (in use as a currency at the time).

1808 — Battle of Revolax

The Battle of Revolax (Finnish: Revonlahden taistelu) took place on 27 April 1808 at Revonlahti, (now part of Siikajoki) in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland, when the Swedish supreme commander Wilhelm Mauritz Klingspor and the Savolax brigade under Colonel Johan Adam Cronstedt, a total of about 2,250 Swedes surprised an isolated Russian column of about 1,700 men under Major General Michail Leontievich Bulatov. The Russians were surrounded and tried to cut their way through but failed and the Russian general Bulatov was taken prisoner by the Swedes. This, and the preceding battle of Siikajoki nine days earlier, are considered very important events since they are the first Swedish victories after about 2 months of planned retreat.

1813 — Battle of York

The Battle of York was fought on April 27, 1813, in York (present-day Toronto), the capital of the province of Upper Canada (present-day Ontario), during the Anglo-American War of 1812. An American force supported by a naval flotilla landed on the lake shore to the west and advanced against the town, which was defended by an outnumbered force of regulars, militia and Ojibway natives under the overall command of Major General Roger Hale Sheaffe, the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. Sheaffe's forces were defeated and Sheaffe retreated with his surviving regulars to Kingston, abandoning the militia and civilians.

The Battle of Yerbas Buenas developed during the Chilean War of Independence on April 27, 1813. It is also known as the Surprise of Yerbas Buenas. In the battle, the Chilean forces, under the command of Colonel Juan de Dios Puga, and the Spanish forces, under the command of Bridgadier Antonio Pareja, confronted each other. The battle began when, in the middle of the night, the Chileans let loose on the Spanish soldiers that were camping in the village of Yerbas Buenas, near Linares.

The Battle of Chornobyl took place on 27 April 1920, near the town of Chornobyl (Chernobyl), Ukraine, during the Polish-Soviet War. It was part of the Kiev Operation of the Polish Army, and ended in Polish victory. The main Polish unit, which operated in the swampy area of Polesia, was the 9th Infantry Division from Siedlce, commanded by General Władysław Sikorski.

1940 — 1940 Mandatory Palestine v Lebanon football match

The 1940 association football match between the national teams of Mandatory Palestine and Lebanon was the latter's first official international match, and the former's last before they became the Israel national team after 1948. The match took place on 27 April 1940 at the Maccabiah Stadium in Tel Aviv. Officiated by John Blackwell of the British Army, the game was watched by between 6,000 and 10,000 spectators and ended in a 5–1 victory for the home side.

On April 27, 1947, the Communist Central Hebei Independent 7th Brigade secretly approached Tang'erli (堂二里) region from the western part of Ba (霸) county for a sneak attack.

The 1954 Sioux Falls mayoral election took place on April 27, 1954, following a primary election on April 20, 1954. Incumbent Mayor Henry Saure ran for re-election to a second term. In the primary election, Saure placed first, winning 37 percent of the vote. Former South Sioux Falls City Commissioner Fay Wheeldon narrowly defeated former corporate executive Charles Enright in the primary, 30–28 percent, to advance to the general election.

1956 — 1956 Burmese general election

General elections were held in Burma on 27 April 1956 to elect the 250 members of the Burmese Chamber of Deputies. However, voting did not take place for 48 seats in which the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League (AFPFL) candidates ran unopposed. The AFPFL, a former wartime resistance organisation, won the elections with a reduced majority. After the election, U Nu, leader of the AFPFL, temporarily retired to reform the party and its policies.

1966 — 1966 Australian Labor Party leadership spill

A leadership spill in the Australian Labor Party, the party of opposition in the Parliament of Australia, was held on 27 April 1966. It followed a challenge by party deputy-leader Gough Whitlam against incumbent leader Arthur Calwell. Calwell received 49 votes to Whitlam's 25 in a caucus ballot. After claiming victory Calwell then announced that if Labor was defeated at the impending 1966 federal election, he would not stand for the leadership again.

The 1971 South Carolina 1st congressional district special election was held on April 27, 1971 to select a Representative for the 1st congressional district to serve out the remainder of the term for the 92nd Congress. The special election resulted from the death of longtime Representative L. Mendel Rivers on December 28, 1970. Mendel Jackson Davis, a former aide to Rivers and his godson, won a surprising victory in the Democratic primary and went on to win the general election against Republican challenger James B. Edwards.

Presidential elections were held in South Korea on 27 April 1971. The result was a victory for Park Chung-hee, who won 53.2% of the vote. Voter turnout was 79.8%. 1978 — Saur Revolution

The Saur Revolution (Dari: إنقلاب ثور Pashto: د ثور انقلاب‎) (also Sawr Revolution) was a revolution led by the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) against the rule of self-proclaimed Afghan President Mohammed Daoud Khan on 27–28 April 1978. The government at the time was led by Daoud, who had previously overthrown his cousin King Mohammed Zahir in 1973. 'Saur' is the Dari name of the second month of the Persian calendar, the month in which the uprising took place. The revolution led to the 1979 intervention by the Soviets and the 1979–1989 Soviet–Afghan War against the Mujahideen.

1978 — Willow Island disaster

The Willow Island disaster was the collapse of a cooling tower under construction at the Pleasants Power Station at Willow Island, West Virginia, on Thursday, April 27, 1978. The falling concrete caused the scaffolding to collapse, killing 51 construction workers. It is thought to be the largest construction accident in American history.

1993 — 1993 Zambia national football team plane crash

On the evening of 27 April 1993, a de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo transport aircraft of the Zambian Air Force crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after taking off from Libreville, Gabon. The flight was carrying most of the Zambia national football team to a 1994 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Senegal in Dakar. All 25 passengers and five crew members were killed.

1994 — South African general election, 1994

General elections were held in South Africa on 27 April 1994. The elections were the first in which citizens of all races were allowed to take part, and were therefore also the first held with universal adult suffrage. The election was conducted under the direction of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and marked the culmination of the four-year process that ended apartheid. Millions queued in lines over a three-day voting period. Altogether 19,726,579 votes were counted and 193,081 were rejected as invalid.

Backlash (2003) was the fifth annual Backlash professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The Nova Scotia Liberal Party held a leadership election on April 27, 2007 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex, following the resignation of Francis MacKenzie, shortly after failing to win a seat in the 2006 election. This was the third leadership convention for the Liberals since 2002. It was won by Annapolis MLA Stephen McNeil. The Liberal Party is a centrist political party in the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is, with the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia New Democratic Party, one of three parties that have formed a government in the province.

The PMG Clash of Legends, Starring Hulk Hogan was an American professional wrestling pay-per-view event (in various territories) promoted by Memphis Wrestling owner Corey Maclin in conjunction with Hulk Hogan, which took place on April 27, 2007 in the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. The event attracted a degree of attention after a scheduled match between Hall of Famers Hogan and Jerry Lawler was vetoed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), resulting in a lawsuit between Maclin and WWE. It was described by the Wrestling Observer as "the biggest indie undertaking in the U.S. geared toward the non-Hispanic market in many years".

It took place on 27 April 2007 at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and was contested between city rivals Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli. It was Al-Ahli's tenth Crown Prince Cup final and Al-Ittihad's 11th.

Backlash (2008) was the tenth annual Backlash professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on April 27, 2008, at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. The event starred wrestlers from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands. Eight professional wrestling matches were scheduled on the event's card, which featured a supercard, a scheduling of more than one main event. The first was a four-way elimination for the WWE Championship match featuring wrestlers from the Raw brand, in which all four men fought in the ring at the same time, with competitors being eliminated by pinfall or submission.

2016 — Misrata ambush

On 27 April 2016, Islamic State in Libya ambushed a convoy consisting of an undisclosed number of Libyan GNA as well as foreign troops. A multi-national force of Britain's Special Boat Service personnel, Italian Marines from the San Marco Marine Brigade, and local soldiers loyal to the recognized Libyan Government of National Accord were travelling from the northwestern Libyan city of Misrata towards the city of Sirte when it was hit. The ambush continued until "Italian and French warplanes and attack helicopters intrevend" according to several intelligence websites. Uncomfirmed reports indicated that the convoy suffered casualties includ ding several GNA soldiers captured or killed, and several Italian marines killed or wounded.
